
Netflix has announced a new original movie!
The project is based on the true story of former Syrian refugee sisters turned Olympic swimmers, Sarah and Yusra Mardini. The Swimmers will be brought to the screen by Welsh-Egyptian writer and director Sally El-Hosaini.
The sisterly bond will be reflected on screen with real-life sisters Manal and Nathalie Issa casted as the central roles. The rest of the cast include Arab-Israeli actor Ali Suliman, Egyptian star Ahmed Malek, Syrian actress Kinda Alloush, as well as YouTube content creator Elmi Rashid Elmi and German actor Matthias Schweighöfer. The Good Karma Hospital star James Krishna Floyd is also set to star in the film.
The Swimmers will be produced by Working Title Films. The company’s previous credits include Johnny English and Bridget Jones film franchises. Co-Chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will serve as producers, whilst Stephen Daldry serves as the executive producer.
The film is set to make its worldwide debut as a Netflix original in 2022.
