Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has donated a large total of $5 million to Khan Academy – a free online education platform. Founded by Salman Khan, Khan Academy provides free lessons to 120 million registered users worldwide; around 20 to 30 million students use the academy each month.

What started as Sal just giving his cousin math lessons has now grown into a 150-person organisation teaching a range of subjects online.

In a statement Sal Khan said: “I view this type of investment in what we’re doing is really foundational for us to be able to build a multi generational institution, so that future Elon Musks of the world are also able to tap into their potential.”
