David Cánovas – known to the internet as TheGrefg, has broken the world audience record on Twitch with more than 2.4 million views! Owned by Amazon, Twitch is an American video live streaming service that launched in 2011. Having amassed a large fanbase on YouTube with his broadcast gaming, TheGrefg started using Twitch when it was almost unknown.
At the beginning of his gaming career, David had to devote half of his time to YouTube as he juggled his studies for four years. During this time he attracted millions of subscribers, who watched him play ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Clash Royal’. David then made the jump to Twitch and started streaming the game ‘Fortnite’.
Speaking about his decision to start using Twitch, he told El Pais in Spanish (English translate): “I am of spontaneous decisions. When I opted for this, obviously, I already had the YouTube base. Above all, I did not want to miss the opportunity to try it .
“I disagree with betting directly on this profession if you do not have a notable audience before.”
The 23-year-old now has over 16 million subscribers on YouTube, 6 million subscribers on Twitch and is a co-founder of e-sport (electronic sport) team “Team Heretics”.
Talking about his success he said (English translate): “It is shocking that someone is entertained both with a Netflix production that is worth millions of euros and with a kid talking from his room.”
