Taraji P. Henson says she focuses on doing God’s work instead of being ‘the greatest’

In a recent interview with Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast, actress Taraji P. Henson spoke about how she doesn’t aim to be the greatest.

Speaking with her friend and radio host Angie, Taraji explained that if people try to be the greatest, they’re “serving a different God”.

She said: “God put you here to do his work. Check your ego. I don’t strive to be the greatest because that’s serving something else. The humble man knows that God gave him those talents to change and shift the world to a better place.

“But when you get into ‘I’, ‘me’, ‘I,I,I’, that’s another God.”

Her comments came after she stated that it’s important to have an ego (a sense of self-worth), but that one’s ego always needs to be checked.

Taraji also opened up about her experience with depression and anxiety.

“When I talk to people, I’m like, ‘If you have a story to tell, tell it.’ No one wants to hear how easy your life was. Life ain’t easy. I [don’t care] what colour you are, how privileged you are, life ain’t easy,” She said.

“And it’s getting harder and harder every day. If you have a story to tell, if you’ve come through some trials and tribulations, you need to share it. Because you’re going to inspire someone. You’re going to give someone the motivation to not give up.”
