Amanda Gorman has made history yet again by becoming the first poet to grace the cover of Vogue Magazine!
The 23-year-old made history in January (2021) by becoming the youngest poet to read at a presidential inauguration at the age of 22, when she read her poem “The Hill We Climb”. Furthermore, she became the United States’s First Youth Poet Laureate at the age of 19.
In an Instagram caption, the poet wrote: “The first poet ever on the cover of @voguemagazine. I am eternally grateful & do not expect to be the last—for what is poetry if not beauty?
“What a joy to do this cover while wearing a piece designed by groundbreaking Black designer @virgilabloh that honors my heritage. It was a dream to be photographed by the indomitable @annieleibovitz & styled by @gabriellak_j who literally would carry me on her back & forth between set. Wow, my hands are shaking with love.
“This is called the Rise of Amanda Gorman, but it is truly for all of you, both named and unseen, who lift me up.”
Amanda also filmed her and her mother seeing the Vogue cover for the first time!
“I am eternally grateful & do not expect to be the last,” are words from a person who is paving the way for those behind her!
