Xiomara Castro has become the first female President of Honduras.
The 62-year-old was Honduras’ First Lady when her husband Manuel Zelaya was president from 2006 to 2009.
On her Instagram, president Xiomara wrote in Spanish: “Today from Honduras we send a powerful message to the world: hope will always be stronger, love will always be stronger and unity will always be the true strength.
“Thank you people! I will always carry this pride to represent you. Let’s now create a historic government, the one for which we fight and dream.”
