Stormzy and HSBC UK will fund 30 more Black students studying at Cambridge University
Stormzy has partnered with HSBC to send 30 more Black students to Cambridge University.
Under a new partnership between Stormzy’s charity, #Merky Foundation and banking group HSBC UK, each student will receive a £20,000 annual scholarship.
Over the next three years, the tuition fees and maintenance costs for 10 new students will be covered each year.
So far, six Black students have been supported by Stormzy’s scholarships which began in 2018.
In a statement, the musician said, “For 30 more black students to have the opportunity to study at Cambridge University – the same year our initial 2018 scholars graduate – feels like an incredible milestone.
The musician added: “I hope this scholarship continues to serve as a small reminder to young black students that the opportunity to study at one of the best universities in the world is theirs for the taking.”
Since Stormzy’s scholarship programme, there has been a rise in the number of Black applicants and Black admissions to Cambridge University.
