A man’s best friend is a dog, but it turns out that a dog’s best friend is a stuffed unicorn.

In Kenansville, North Carolina, a stray dog kept sneaking into the Dollar General store to steal a purple stuffed unicorn from one of the shelves. Whenever a customer came through the door, the dog would run in and go directly to the unicorn in the toy aisle.

Employees at the Dollar General store stated that the dog returned five times to retrieve the unicorn. Once the dog returned, the employees locked the doors and called animal control to help with the adorable puppy and his plushy friend.

“He went straight for the unicorn, the same one every time,” Joe Newburn, Duplin County Animal Services Supervisor, said. “It was so strange, one of the strangest calls I’ve ever dealt with.”

The officer who responded to the call, Samantha Lane, was amused by the dog. Lane purchased the toy for $10 and gifted it to the dog so he would no longer have to steal it.

Lane brought the dog, along with the unicorn, to the Duplin County Services shelter. The magical-creature-loving canine received a fitting name, Sisu, after the dragon in Disney’s most recent film, “Raya and the Last Dragon.”

The shelter posted pictures of Sisu and his unicorn on their Facebook page. Sisu and his unicorn found a home with an adoptive family after the shelter received many inquiries about them.

The Dollar General store also sent multiple unicorns home with Sisu and his new owners, so he will never be separated from his dear friend again.
