The “Friends” Reunion Special is Still in the Works on HBO Max

Not to fear “Friends” fans, the reunion special is still happening!

In February of 2020, a reunion starring the entire cast of the ’90s sitcom Friends was announced. The reunion will feature all six cast members, including Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc.

Initially, it was set to premiere on HBO Max last May 2020. But just like Ross and Rachel, the reunion took a break. Filming was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

For months, fans were uncertain whether or not the reunion was still happening. But Matthew Perry, who played Chandler, assured fans that the reunion special wasn’t canceled.

“Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March,” Perry announced on Twitter in November. “Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that’s the way I like it!”

Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe, also updated fans about the special on Rob Lowe’s podcast, “Literally! With Rob Lowe.”

“There’s different facets to it, and we already shot packages of things,” Kudrow said. “I pre-shot something for it already, so we’re definitely doing it because I already shot a little something.”

The reunion will not be scripted. So, we won’t see the cast embodying their old characters with a new story line. Instead, it will be a time for the cast and creators of the show to reminisce together on the original “Friends” soundstage the series filmed on at Warner Brothers Studios.

The reunion special will feature some unseen behind the scenes footage from the series. There’s also bound to be a few more surprises in store for fans. However, the details of those surprises are under wraps.

While there’s no official release date for the Friends reunion special, it’s still in the works and will be there for you soon!
