Nora Al Matrooshi has become the United Arab Emirates’ first female astronaut!

Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi were chosen by the UAE to take part in the country’s astronaut program.

Taking to twitter, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, tweeted: “We announce the first Arab female astronaut, among two new astronauts, selected from over 4,000 candidates to be trained with NASA for future space exploration missions.”

As of now, there have been four astronauts selected in the UAE to take part in the program. In 2019, Hazza Al Mansouri became the first Emirati man in space.

Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi’s training will take place at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston in the United States.

Giving her appreciation, Nora took to twitter to thank the leadership and the UAE Astronaut Program.

We’re sure many young girls will look up to Nora Al Matrooshi and believe that they too can become an astronaut one day.

We wish Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi all the best in space!
