Married couple Ciara and Russell Wilson recently gave a presentation to middle school students in Seattle, US. They spoke about how it is never too early to learn about financial literacy.

Speaking to the students, Russell said, “Financial literacy and building wealth is so important.” The Seattle Seahawk’s quarterback added, “Ciara and I really wanted to talk to you all because we didn’t come from much and we had big visions, we had big goals, big dreams.”

Ciara gave advice on investing, the singer said, “All these things can pay back tremendously if you invest in them in the right way. Investing is very powerful and it will also allow you to create an opportunity to build a legacy for your family.”

Not only did the couple share their financial advice and inspiration, but they also donated over $35,000 to the school, enabling each student to receive a savings account with a minimum of $40 in startup funds. The couple did this through their foundation (Why Not You Foundation) as well as the NFL Players Association and the company, Goalsetter.

This isn’t Ciara and Wilson’s first gesture to students and their education. They also used their Why Not You Foundation to help with the funds for a local charter school that had been affected by the pandemic.

There is a growing number of women taking on trucking as a profession and the numbers are only getting better with the introduction of TikTok! Female drivers are using the platform to share their daily experiences and stories, encouraging other women to join them!

Clarissa Rankin is one influencer who spreads the message that trucking is for everyone. She uses her TikTok platform of 1 million followers to show her routine as a trucker, how she embraces her style on the road, and her ‘Mommy Get Away Apartment’, which is the bunk in her truck. Rankin also uses her online community to spread motivation and encourage others to join her in the career.

Similar to Clarissa, there are many other influencers who are growing their social media around their trucking world. Now 8 years on, she uses her TikTok to break down the stigma of being a trucker. Tierra said, “I like to show that you can still be feminine in a male dominated field, and a lot of people need to see that.”

The 26-year-old also uses her TikTok to give advice on how to stay healthy on the road.

Inclusive industry groups like Women in Trucking, have made incredible strives towards inclusivity by collaborating with Girl Scouts of America, enabling young girls to see trucking as an accessible career option.

Congratulations to Farah Jefry who has become the first woman in Saudi Arabia to represent Adidas as a brand ambassador!

Farah Jefry is an 18-year-old footballer who has been playing football for over 10 years prior to this exciting collaboration with Adidas. Adidas announced the signing of Farah, who is a Jeddah Eagles’ midfielder, making her the first Saudi sportswoman to represent Adidas.

Speaking to Arab News, Farah shared that she had always dreamt of being a professional football player and that becoming an ambassador for Adidas was an honour. She also hopes that being supported by a well-known company will encourage and inspire more Saudi female footballers to follow in her steps.

The footballer has been training with the Jeddah Eagles Ladies’ football club for the past 3 years. Being younger than her teammates, Farah said that she did initially find training tough but used the experience to learn and improve her skills. One of the key pieces of advice the footballer offers is to be consistent and practice as much as possible.

“It has become a lifestyle now, walking around with a football all day is normal for me nowadays,” she said.

2020 saw the first Saudi women’s football league, which allowed 24 teams to take part in the organised competition.

Encouraging everyone to follow their dreams, Farah said, “Don’t be discouraged by people or opinions — there might be some obstacles, but at the end it is all worth it. If you’re passionate enough just chase your dream. Everything else will align with that sooner or later.”

Marcus Rashford has inspired the nation with his campaign for free school meals to make sure no child goes hungry. Now, the Manchester United footballer has expanded his portfolio by becoming an author with his new motivational book for children, ‘You Are A Champion: Unlock Your Potential, Find Your Voice and Be the BEST You Can Be‘, written with Carl Anka.

Expected to be released on May 27th (2021), the book includes stories from Rashford’s own life, illustrations and tips from psychologist Katie Warriner to help children grow their confidence, dream big and discover the power of their own voice.

In a statement, he said: “It’s hard to know what is possible until you start. You have to be able to dream big and be prepared to work towards your dreams. Good things take time. I’ve achieved a lot, but it didn’t come in one go. Big things rarely happen overnight, and good things rarely happen as if by magic.”

In November of 2020, Rashford MBE created his book club and is now following this with his inspirational children’s book. His aim is to make sure that children of all backgrounds are encouraged to enjoy literacy and reading.

The 23-year-old also shared that he hopes his book club and new book will allow children to feel the benefits that reading can have on mental health.

“I just really wish I was offered the opportunity to really engage with reading more as a child, but books were never a thing we could budget for as a family when we needed to put food on the table. There were times where the escapism of reading could have really helped me,” he said.

In 2020, Rashford was awarded an MBE for his campaign to end child hunger. Marcus’s motivation for his campaign followed his own experiences as a child and the struggles that families continue to experience in making sure all their children have access to food. During the pandemic, this cause was particularly highlighted when children weren’t able to go into schools and didn’t have access to the meals they would normally be provided. This campaign lead to the government providing a £120 million Covid fund for meals, along with spreading awareness of child poverty in the UK.
